In the wake of the Medusa...
The Pogues (with Shane MacGowan) are playing on this side of the U.S.!

Staci and I will be going with Thor up in yonder San Francisco on October 9th. Maybe we can see some of you good folks who live up there, too!

Yes, my friends! This is going to be a good year!

Moving out of Hollywood to Long Beach within the next two weeks is helping my mood aplenty, too. I just want it to be over and done with, already. Onward and upward!

You my friend are a god. No one else notified me of the Pogues coming to town. I mean c'mon someone should've kept me in the loop.

Good luck with the LBC. There are days I miss it a lot.

Hey!

Yeah, I just found out about the Pogues thing and had to shout it out to the world pretty much immediately! Make sure to sign up at the site and you can preorder L.A. tickets starting tomorrow!

Hey, as someone contemplating a move to Hollywood, why are you leaving? And why LB?

In other concert news, the Legendary Pink Dots play in Los Angeles on Friday, July 7th in their first US tour in two years.

Oh, I wouldn't discourage you from moving to Hollywood -- I enjoyed it for quite some time! But we sort of feel like we've outstayed our welcome in a building with a loud upstairs neighbor (no matter where we seem to move in the building), too many crappy wannabe "upscale" clubs opening in our neighborhood (and the late noisemakers who park in front of our apartment every single night), and we just feel the need for a change of pace.

In Long Beach, Staci will be able to walk to the Aquarium of the Pacific (where she volunteers) instead of us having to rent a car and drive there every week, and we'll be three blocks from the waterfront. It's a much more bicycle-friendly town, and our new apartment will be in a nice, quiet area. No upstairs neighbors (or downstairs neighbors, as we'll be above the garage). Plus, we won't be so far from Hollywood (30ish miles) that we can't make the reverse pilgrimage when necessary for visiting friends, going to shows, or whatever.

We'll see how we feel in a year or so, but I think it's going to be a positive change in a lot of ways. I'm generally an optimistic fool!

This all makes sense. I also like LB, and when you're settled in I'll bug you to come and see me perform with the world-famous Midnight Insanity some Saturday night.

That said, after seven frigging years spent in San Jose (and worse, Sunnyvale), I am absolutely determined to live somewhere with a bit of life. Even if it's just the NoHo artsy area, or even central Hollywood proper, Merlin needs some ACTION in his life. After having lived in New York, Paris and London, living San Jose is like being gagged with ether-induced delerium and boredom every day.

Hah! I've only been through San Jose once on a bus trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles (a couple of months back), but it did seem pretty...sterile. Nice, maybe, but perhaps too nice?

Hey, but 2025 E 4th St. is within walking distance of our new place! Do you perform there often? Or is it something you plan on doing when you're in closer proximity?

Labor Day's in September, I think! But maybe you mean Memorial Day (which is this weekend)? [If I used emoticons, I'd have a big smiley face planted right here, but I don't.]

I think the plan is to continue packing and moving some of the smaller items this weekend, so we'll be kinda busy. Oh! But Sunday is our friend Rachel's club and I think we plan on going there! You should, too! We haven't seen you in forever!

Yeah! You're telling me. I hope the move will inspire me to write more and get out of the house on a regular basis. The latter usually gives me something to feed the former! When I'm inside all the time, there's not much to really write about. Here's to kicking the doldrums out of my life!

You're right, of course! I need to write more, in general.

I miss being in touch with the outside world!

And I miss you, too!
